Fork Oil Measuring Guide
| Term | Meaning |
| Oil Level / Air Gap | Distance from the top of the fork tube down to the oil surface. |
| Oil Quantity | Amount of oil added to each fork leg, usually listed in ml or cc. |
| Spring Removed | Fork spring is removed before measuring oil height. |
| Fork Compressed | Fork tube is fully compressed before measuring oil height. |
| Oil Weight | Viscosity of fork oil, commonly 5W, 10W or 15W. |
Important Notes
- Fork oil level is often more accurate than simply adding a measured volume.
- Always confirm whether measurement is fork compressed or extended.
- Most fork oil heights are measured with spring removed.
- Use factory manual specifications where possible.
- Old bikes may have modified forks, springs or spacers.
